The pistol

A 16-year-old Form 2 student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in the Ashanti Region, has been arrested by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the weapon was discovered during a routine search conducted by school authorities in the students’ dormitory around 9:30 a.m. on May 14, 2025.

Following the discovery, the student—whose identity is withheld due to his age—was detained by the school and later handed over to the police.

During police interrogation, the suspect alleged that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, identified as Daniel Owusu Baafi. Based on this information, the police arrested the stepfather on Thursday, May 15, 2025, to assist with investigations.

Both the student and his stepfather have since been granted police enquiry bail and are expected to report to the police for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapon.
