Suhum MCE Gets 100%

Margaret Darko, Suhum MCE

THE EASTERN Regional Women Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Margaret Darko, who was nominated as the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive by President Akufo-Addo, has been overwhelmingly confirmed. She scored 100% of the votes (all 40) cast by the assembly members and the government appointees.

The assembly hall was electrified with jubilation when the nominee was declared by the Suhum Electoral officer, who supervised the poll, as the municipal chief executive.

Mrs. Margaret Darko thanked the members for reposing confidence in her by endorsing her nomination in such a manner.

She promised to fight for the welfare of the assembly members and also work hard to bring the necessary developmental projects to the municipality.

In a related development, seven district chief executives nominated by the president have also been confirmed at seven different districts in the region.

One of them is Elder Richmond Amponsah, a 46-year-old businessman who is also the vice chairman of the NPP in the Akyem Achiase Constituency. Out of a total of 38 assembly members, 37 voted ‘Yes,’ representing -97.73% whiles one of the ballot papers got spoilt.

The rest are Isaac Agyapong, who had 84.4% to become the district chief executive of Kwahu East; Seth Birikorang Ofosu (100%) for Denkyembour District; Felix Nartey Odjao (97.8%), for Upper Manya Krobo District; Simon Kwaku Tettey, (100%), Lower Manya Krobo District; Dennis Edward Aboagye (97.4%), Akuapem North and Frank Aidoo (100%), Akuapem South District.

Following the confirmation of Elder Richmond Kofi Amponsah – former assembly member for Akyem Akenkansu Electoral Area and Presiding Member (PM) of the Birim South District Assembly – as the district chief executive, the PM seat had become vacant and needed to be filled.

Two assembly members – 41-year-old Daniel Asamoah Prah and Aboagye Gyimah filed to contest for the seat, with Mr. Prah polling 32 votes as Mr. Gyimah had 6 votes. Mr. Prah was then sworn into office by the judge of the Akyem Swedru circuit court, Alexander Owrae, as the PM.

Eric Kwakye Daffour, Eastern Regional Minister, advised the newly confirmed MDCEs to always respect the assembly members and solicit for their support to ensure participatory democracy in the various districts.
