It has emerged that the main suspect in the murder of the policewoman (Agatha Nana Nabin) has been found to have attempted to kill another person.
Issahaku Yakubu aka Kanbo-Naa was yesterday brought before the Tamale Magistrate Court for allegedly attempting to kill one Tominu Yussif in Tamale in May 2018.
According to the police, he was sent to the Tamale Magistrate Court but the case was not heard.
The suspect shot and injured the victim over GH¢2,000 at a popular spot called James Town Drinking Spot, which is located at Assemblyman Park at Water Works in Tamale.
The suspect and five others are standing trial in connection with the gruesome killing of the police sergeant at a checkpoint on the Kumbungu-Tamale road. They are expected to be in court today.
Addressing the media, the Northern Regional Crime Officer, Sup./Mr. K Otuo Acheampong, said the victim came to the police when he heard about the arrest of the suspect.
According to him, suspect is facing two separate trials and is expected to be charged with attempted murder and the use of offensive weapon without authority in the 2018 case.
“Since attempted murder is an indictable offense, after investigation, we will forward the docket to the Attorney General for their directive,” he said.
According to the facts, Kanbo-Naa is a tailor who doubles as a chief warrior of Salamba, Tamale, and in May 2018 at about 9:00pm, the victim went to the Jamestown Drinking Spot for some bottle of drinks.
While there, the accused person whose palace is adjoining to the drinking spot emerged from nowhere and started firing an AK-47 rifle into the air indiscriminately.
He then accosted the victim and demanded GH¢2,000 and when the victim refused, the suspect shot him in the left thigh.
A witness in the case called the victim’s wife who also went to the scene and rushed the victim to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.
A complaint was later lodged with the police, where a medical form was issued to the victim.
The victim was operated upon and a bullet, believed to be an AK 47 assault rifle, retrieved from the thigh.
