A man believed to be in his early 30s was allegedly lynched by some residents of Inchaban in the Shama District of the Western Region yesterday when they suspected him of being a thief.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the man was stripped naked before he was beaten to death.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect’s body was seen lying naked with some abrasions at a spot near a refuse dump, off the Dwomo road at dawn yesterday.
Some of the residents suspected that the man (whose identity was not known) was a thief who was attempting to break into a house to steal.
They therefore, warned gangs and anyone having the intention of going to the Inchaban area for any mischievous activities, to stay away.
According to the residents, there used to be a community watchdog committee which patrolled the area at night, but it collapsed due to lack of motivation of the members.
They therefore, suggested the re-activation of the committee to arrest thieves who had targeted residents of the area in recent times.
The assembly member for the area, Francis Biney, indicated that he was informed of the news by some neighbours at about 6am and followed up to the scene.
He said he later notified the Inchaban police who went to convey the body to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, whilst investigation continued.
