Edward Awunore (in smock) being sworn into office
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, Edward Awunore has been confirmed again by the Assembly members for a second term.
Awunore was nominated in the Upper East Region in 2012.
The DCE polled 29 votes out of 31 votes, representing 93.5 percent of the total votes cast.
There were two votes against him and a member of the Assembly was absent during the exercise.
Per the Local Government Law, a nominee is expected to poll two-thirds of the total votes cast by the Assembly members.
The Assembly members extensively engaged in discussions to confirm the DCE to avert confusion.
In his address after the confirmation, Mr Awunore said the Assembly members have demonstrated a clear sense of unity by reposing confidence in him to continue his work.
“You have demonstrated that in the Talensi District Assembly, we may have challenges in our administrative processes, but we are one and we are all looking at the development of the Talensi District…I am a human being, our people say when you are creating a path, it will only take somebody at your back to tell you that the path is straight or not. Please let’s work together to develop Talensi.”
The Council of State member, Rev. Ayeebo, Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo and Ghana’s Ambassador to Cuba, John Akologo Tia witnessed the exercise.
Hon. Awunore is the second District Chief Executive (DCE) to be confirmed in the Upper East Region after
the DCE for Pusiga, Alhassan Akuribila who obtained over 70 percent of the total votes cast recently.
