Talk2Tiana, Others Reach Out

Talk2Tiana, a non-governmental organization with focus on creating mental health awareness, has held an outreach to educate the public on the signs and symptoms of mental disorders for early intervention.
 
The event, held at Wiamoase, Agona in the Ashanti region, educated participants on identifying mental disorders and how they can support friends or family members who become unwell mentally.
 
Mental health professionals including Ricky Asante, a mental health nurse from the UK and Abena Korkor, a mental health advocate shared their experience with the audience, while Dr. Martin Akutek Luther King, staff member Komfo Anokye Psychiatric Unit and Gabriel Dapaah a personality disorder specialist delved into what is mental health.
 
There was also a representative from the Mental Health Authority, Madam Faustina Nuakoh, who is the Regional Mental Health Coordinator for Ashanti Region.
 
The event was supported by the Mental Health Unit of S.D.A Hospital and Salvation Army Hospital in Wiamoase.
 
Akosua Tiana, founder of Talk2Tiana, said alongside the awareness, her organization partnered Alicia Basel foundation, which focuses on empowering the next generation by supporting them with good quality education, to hold a Christmas funfair at Kumasi children’s home.
 
Tlak2Tiana also partnered KJM Foundation that provide water boreholes to rural communities, to donate to the people of Nsawam-Pepraw, Oheneyre Gifty Anti – Awo Dansoa’s Happy Feet project and the S.D.A Hospital.
 
Akosua Tiana has a background in Counselling and Psychotherapy and aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental health.
