Tanzania’s First Female President Sworn-in

For the first time, a woman has been sworn into office as President of Tanzania.

Samia Suluhu Hassan, a much loved figure across the East African nation, assumed office on Friday morning, March 19, 2021, replacing her late predecessor, President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.

Mr Magufuli died of heart complications on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in Tanzania.

Delivering her inaugural speech,
President Hassan admitted that there was  “heavy load” on her shoulders.

She therefore called on all Tanzanians for  for the “burying of differences”.

She assured the nation repeatedly that she will ensure stability, appealing that it was no longer time “to point fingers”.

She was Sworn-in at a packed hall at State House in Dar es Salaam.

Madam Hassan served as vice President from 2015 until Mr. Magufuli’s death.
