Tarkwa Gold Fields Are Farmers’ Day Champs

The fantastic form from Gold Fields Tennis Club, Tarkwa, which has seen them crushing their opponents throughout the year, again manifested during the just-ended ‘Gold Fields Farmers Day Tennis Tourney’ at Gold Fields Tennis Club, Tarkwa.

Representing clubs included: Ho Tennis Club, Nsuta Tennis Club, Kings University Tennis Club and host, Gold Fields Tennis Club.

Skippered by Edward Taylor, the Gold Fields Tennis club were too hot for their hapless opponents to contain in both the singles and doubles games and were able to defend their title.

In all, seven games were played by each club and Goldfields Tennis Club beat Nsuta to qualify for the finals. Kings University Tennis Club also defeated Ho Tennis Club and in the finals, Goldfields Tennis Club met Kings and ousted them 5-2.

In the Men’s singles competition final, Emmanuel Amos-Banyie (Tarkwa) beat Theophilus Teye of Kings University Tennis Club 7-5.

The match of the day was between Eric Okyere and George Heckson of Kings Tennis Club. Okyere put up a spirited performance to beat his opponent 7-3.

In the doubles competition, Gideon paired up with Emmanuel (Tarkwa) to oust George and Kwame of Kings University Tennis Club 7-3.

Former Vice chairman of Ho tennis Club, Kartey Kumoji thanked the host club for the wonderful reception towards the visiting clubs and the organization of a successful tournament.
