Telecel Foundation Commissions Bamboi ICT Lab

Telecel Ghana Foundation has commissioned a fully refurbished ICT laboratory at Bamboi D/A Junior High School in the Savannah Region, in a move aimed at narrowing Ghana’s digital divide and equipping students with essential technology skills.

The intervention, delivered under the Foundation’s Employee Volunteering Programme (EVP), also known as “Red Hearts,” mobilises staff to contribute time and resources to community projects with lasting social impact.

Led by Telecel Ghana’s Technology Team, the initiative transformed the school’s outdated ICT facility into a modern digital learning hub.

Prior to the upgrade, students had limited exposure to computers, constraining their ability to develop basic digital competencies.

The refurbished laboratory now includes desktop computers, high-speed internet connectivity, a projector, an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and other tools designed to support interactive teaching and learning.

Head of Foundation, Sustainability and External Communications at Telecel Ghana, Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, underscored the importance of expanding access to digital resources in education.

“At Telecel Ghana Foundation, we believe access to digital tools is no longer a luxury but a necessity for every child. By equipping schools like Bamboi D/A JHS with the resources they need, we are not only enhancing teaching and learning but also preparing students to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” she said.

She added that employee volunteers remain central to the Foundation’s impact, demonstrating how collective action can drive meaningful and sustainable change within communities.

Ms. Rockson further noted that the project aligns with the Foundation’s broader commitment to digital inclusion and improved educational outcomes in underserved communities, under its “Connected Learning” pillar.

Management of the school welcomed the intervention, describing it as both timely and transformative. They indicated that the facility would significantly enhance ICT instruction and provide students with their first real opportunity to engage in practical digital learning.

The ICT laboratory upgrade forms part of the Telecel Ghana Foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote equitable access to quality education, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
