Tema East NDC Supporters On Rampage Over PC Detention

Isaac Odamtten

AGGRIEVED SUPPORTERS of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are on rampage following the detention of their parliamentary candidate, Isaac Ashai Odamtten for his inability to meet a bail bond slapped on him by the High Court, Financial Division in Accra over corruption charges.

Isaac Odamtten, who was a former Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) was yesterday given a bail sum of GHC10 million, together with four others, for their alleged involvement in some financial malfeasance during his tenure as Mayor of Tema.

The failure of the NDC PC to produce two sureties each to access his bail last night has landed them in police custody.

His detention has angered some NDC supporters prompting them to go on rampage, destroying the NPP party office, as well as a washroom constructed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Titus Glover, who they accuse of masterminding the arrest of their PC.

The supporters have since dawn massed up on the streets of Tema Newtwon, burning tires and breaking beer bottles to register their displeasure

However, police have intervened to bring the situation under control.
