The Tema Regional Police Command has purchased a drone to fight crime in the metropolis, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nana Asomah Hinneh, Tema Regional Police Commander.

The police chief said the drone would help the law enforcement agencies to investigate crimes and apprehend offenders.

“We are planning to acquire more of the drones to be used to fight crimes, including land guard activities, which are now high in Tema region. We’ll also train more of our personnel to use the drone,” he said.

He made the statement when the executives of the Tema Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) paid a courtesy call on him to officially welcome him to the region.

The commander said they would use the drone to embark on search-and-rescue operations, guide officers in tactical situations and monitor large crowds, among others.

Touching on the activities of land guards, DCOP Asomah mentioned that his outfit would work hard to effectively tackle the nefarious activities of the miscreants in the region.

As a result, he said the command has advised chiefs and land owners to always resort to legal means to resolve land matters rather than engaging land guards to protect their lands.

He expressed excitement about the reduction in crime in Tema, citing the publicized armed robbery operation, which led to the death of a Lebanese national at the Heavy Industrial Area.

The Commander was optimistic the government would provide logistics such as vehicles and motorbikes to help the police fight crime.

He explained that the command has been provided with six patrol vehicles which have been permanently positioned in Ashaiman, Dawhenya, Industrial Area, Zenu among others.

DCOP Asomah said the police would intensify motor patrols to ensure timely response to emergency situations.

He appealed to residents of the area to always volunteer information to the police for prompt action.

The Tema Chapter Chairman of the GJA, Dominic Hlordzi, on behalf of journalists in the area, officially welcomed the commander to the region.

He said GJA would collaborate with the commander to fight crime in the region to protect lives and property.
