There was a drama at Obuasi when a fire tender dispatched to fire scene crashed.
The fire tender that services the Municipality and others was involved in an accident while on its way to fight a fire outbreak.
This was after the station received a distress call from the Kyekyewere community of outbreak of fire at the house within their territory.
According to a report on Obuasi Tv, a local Tv network in the area, a fire tender was immediately dispatched with the siren loudly blowing but upon reaching Obuasi Stadium Junction, the driver who was unawared of the construction of a bridge on the road had no option but to steer away from the main road to save trapping in the constructed pit.
However, in an attempt to swerve, the fire tender crashed with the storey building causing the vehicle to somersault.
An eyewitness, Kofi Opoku who narrated the incident explained that “in the event of the crash, the driver and other crew members had their heads and hands dislocated and were conveyed by the Ghana Ambulance Service to Obuasi Government Hospital.
Speaking in an interview, the Ashanti Regional Fire Service Commander ACFO Henry Giwah, disclosed that all the 8-member crew sustained serious injuries and were rushed to AGA Health Foundation and Obuasi Government Hospital respectfully while 6 of them are in critical condition.
“I’m blaming the contractor for not using any indication concerning the road construction.”Mr. Giwah said.
“I’m worried because the fire tender with the registration Number FS 548 is damaged beyond repairs, we need a replacement. It needs to be sold as scrap there’s nothing the tender can be used for.” Mr. Henry Giwah added.
Meanwhile, the Fire Tender has since been towed from the scene, as Police have commenced an investigation into the matter.
