Test Run For Rail Service Begins Soon

Management of Ghana Railway Company Limited has announced that it will test run the Accra-Tema shuttle service from 22-31 December, 2018.

It would be recalled that the Accra-Tema Rail Service was suspended on October 27, 2017 following derailment of a train at Alajo, a suburb of Accra.

The train was conveying 100 passengers at the time it derailed.

The incident caused panic among the passengers, and the injured at the time were conveyed to the Achimota Hospital for treatment.

An investigation was launched into the cause of the derailment and normal operations are expected to commence on January 2, 2019, BUSINESS GUIDE gathered.

According to a notice by the management of the Ghana Railways Company Limited, the test run would be carried out using trains No. S112 and S117 respectively, during mornings and evenings from stations such as Community 1, Tema, Asoprochona, Batchona, Achimota, Odaw, Accra.

Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Railway Company Limited, Dr. Michael Adjei Anyetei, told BUSINESS GUIDE that after a successful test run, normal operations would start free of charge from 2nd January to middle of January 2019 after which charges would be reintroduced.
