The management of the Tetteh Quarshie Educational Fund (TQEF) in Mampong Akwapim in the Eastern Region has provided free tuition in science, mathematics and Information Communications Technology (ICT) to some students.

At a graduation ceremony held at the Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC), Mampong in the Akwapim North Municipality, the TQEF Coordinator, Israel Agyemang, indicated that 120 Junior High School (JHS) graduates took part in the month-long event.

He further stated that the training programme, which was funded by a US based philanthropist Dr. Patricia Kennedy, helped to introduce the pupils to mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and ICT.

He indicated that TQEF has also introduced “after school reading programmes for pupils within its catchment area in Akwapim to improve their reading and comprehension abilities.

The Chaplain of PRESEC, Rev. Sampson Owusu, whose speech was based on the theme, ‘My Friend My Enemy,’ called on the students to be wary of bad friends.

The chaplain indicated that bad friends could negatively influence them which can affect their academic performance.

“Your parents are making sacrifices to ensure that you receive the best form of education, the only way to appreciate their efforts is to study hard and make very good grades for entry into the university after secondary education,” he stated.

The chaplain, who made reference to Joshua 1:7 and Micah 7:5, also mentioned that obedience to divine instructions from God would ensure success.

The chairperson of TQEF, Dr. Patricia Kennedy, called on the students to form study groups to improve their academic performance.

The management of the TQEF presented certificates of participation to the graduates while some key personalities received trophies for their contributions to the success of the foundation.
