The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted an ad hoc committee to oversee the conduct of aspiring presidential candidates, their campaign teams, and supporters ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The decision was taken after a meeting between the Council and the aspirants on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
The committee is tasked with safeguarding the integrity of the campaign process and ensuring a peaceful and decorous atmosphere in line with the values and traditions of the party.
According to a statement issued by the Council, the committee’s responsibilities include monitoring the comments, actions, and conduct of all aspirants and their followers throughout the campaign period.
It will also receive and review petitions from aspirants regarding hate speech, insults, or abusive language directed at them, and recommend appropriate measures or sanctions where necessary.
“The mechanism is intended to provide a fair, structured, and transparent process to address concerns and preserve the dignity, unity, and image of the Party,” the statement read.
The five-member committee is chaired by Ing. Dr. Kwasi Abeasi, with Dr. Alex Glover-Quartey, Ato Hamilton, and Kwadwo Afari serving as members. Mark Opoku has been appointed as secretary.
The Council of Elders called on all aspirants, their teams, and supporters to cooperate fully with the committee in the discharge of its mandate.
It assured party members and the public of its commitment to conducting a respectful and dignified primary process that will ultimately strengthen party unity and readiness for the 2026 national elections.
