The Least I Was Paid In Nigeria Was $5000 – Jackie Appiah

Jackie Appiah

Actress Jackie Appiah has said she and some of her colleagues who crossed over to Nigeria’s Nollywood film industry made a lot of fortunes from acting during their days.

According to her, Nigeria producers were paying them better salaries than their Ghanaian counterparts, adding that they were sometimes paid four times the amount they were paid in Ghana.

The least she said she took for acting in Nigeria was $5,000.

Jackie, who was speaking in a recent interview on UTV; however, added that she and her colleagues managed to later influence some of Ghana’s producers to start paying them better.

“Those days, we made a lot of money from Nigeria and they were paying in dollars. I used to work back to back. The least I was paid in Nigeria was $5,000. That was the lowest,” she stated.

“There were producers who were paying us more; sometimes four times the amount. So we loved going to Nigeria back in the days. When we started collecting that money in Nigeria, we said producers in Ghana should also start paying us like that. So some of the producers, yeah we got them to pay,” she added.

Actors from both Ghana and Nigeria have, a number of times, crossed over to each other’s country to work. The likes of Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson, Nadia Buari, Majid Michel, Van Vicker, Prince David Osei, John Dumelo, Yvonne Okoro and Adjetey Anang are some of the few Ghanaian actors who work in Nigeria. On the other hand, Nigerian actors like Mr. Ibu, Jim Iyke, Omotola, Ramsey Nouah and a host others also do work in Ghana. And in all, it appears the visiting actors take more cash.
