Thief Caught In Catholic Church

Suspect is now on detention at the Airport station awaiting trial.

While Catholics had gathered at the Mary Mother of Good Counsel to pray to bid farewell to the year 2017 and a prosperous new year on December 31 at a watch night service held by Christians throughout the country, a man who had also joined the congregants to pray was caught stealing.

Suspect Kojo Annan 43, was caught stealing parishioners while mass was ongoing at Mary Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Airport Residential Area around 9:30pm on Sunday.

A close circuit television (CCTV) of the church captured him stealing mobile phones, monies and other accessories from church members.

Reports received had indicated that, that was the second time the CCTV had captured the suspect stealing in the church.

While the lay faithful were busily praying, suspect secretly opened the bags of his victims and stole their mobile phones and other accessories.

One of the church members, luckily, spotted him raised alarm.

The airport police then patrolling the area were called to the scene and they apprehended suspect.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Efia Tenge, who confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE said CCTV footage of the church which is in the custody of the police had captured suspect on two occasions stealing from the church.

She said in the first case, suspect was seen stealing a Samsung mobile phone from a parishioner during a morning mass.

On 31st December watch night service, suspect went there again on his nefarious act and was grabbed.

A search at his house led to the discovery of a number of passports belonging to different people, an ipad, iPhone, drivers license, several credit and ATM cards, ladies purse, three car keys and several business  cards.
