THREE PEOPLE have been shot dead at Barniekrom near Mankranso in the Ashanti Region by one Osman Majeed, who has since gone into hiding.
A police statement said the bodies have been conveyed to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy as efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
According to the police statement, information making rounds indicated that the suspect claimed that the three people had attacked him so he decided to shoot them.
“Police today July 2, 2024, received information to the effect that the suspect had shot three people, claiming they were part of a group that had come to attack him.
“A police team visited the scene of the incident and coveyed the bodies of the three deceased persons to the morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the report said.
The police said exhibits including one motorbike, eight spent cartridges, and four cutlasses were found at the crime scene. They, however, called for calm among the community members.
“We wish to urge the members of the community to remain calm as investigation into the incident continues to get the perpetrator arrested for face Justice,” the report noted.
Meanwhile, other reports said the Chief of Barniekrom, Nana Kontoh, has alleged that a fourth person also died later from gunshots fired by the same suspect.
Other information making rounds indicated that one Joshua, who allowed the suspect to hide in his house briefly after the shooting incident, has been arrested.
Some sources said Majeed on Sunday, June 30, 2024 stormed Jacobu to fire gunshots and caused commotion before leaving to Barniekrom.
Some angry people at Jacobu also followed him to Barniekrom in a reprisal attack, resulting in a fierce gun battle between Majeed and the gang from Jacobu, which left three dead.
