Tight Security At NPP Confab

New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates, members and other people that attended the Annual National Delegates’ Conference were screened by the security agents at the gates of the Koforidua Technical University where the event was held.

A joint military and police team, as well as the party’s security operatives, carried out the daunting task of screening people that converged on the venue.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the security strategy was meant to prevent a situation whereby someone would carry offensive weapon to the venue.

There were reports of the seizure of arms from bodyguards of a journalist.

The historic party programme was held on the campus of Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern Regional capital, on Saturday.

It was attended by President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Bawumia and former President John Agyekum Kufuor, among other dignitaries.

Over 6,000 NPP delegates, party members, sympathizers and representatives from other political parties in the country, were also there.

The security personnel thoroughly screened all the attendants with machines that can detect weapons concealed in pockets and bags.

A police officer, who pleaded anonymity, said it was important to screen the attendants to protect the president, dignitaries and participants.

“Nowadays, miscreants usually take advantage of such massive public gatherings to misbehave and they normally use offensive weapons, including guns, he added.
