Some residents at the accident scene
Four people lost their lives instantly on Saturday, January 17, 2026, when a tipper truck loaded with sand veered off the road and rammed into a roadside salon at Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased were the owner of the salon, her two young children, and a customer who was in the container shop when the tragic incident occurred. The impact of the crash completely destroyed the structure, trapping the victims and giving them no chance of survival.
Four other persons, including the driver of the tipper truck, sustained injuries in the accident. One of the injured, said to be in critical condition, was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, while the others are receiving medical care at the Kumawu Government Hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck, which was conveying sand from a nearby road construction site, lost control before crashing into the salon.
This incident is not the first involving vehicles engaged in the Kumawu road project. In an earlier accident, another truck from the same construction company reportedly crashed into a mosque, but no deaths were recorded.
The latest tragedy has heightened fear among residents, who are calling on the appropriate authorities and the construction company to enforce strict safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
