Togbui Sri To Mediate Bimbilla Chieftaincy Dispute

Torgbe Sri III

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has charged Torgbe Sri III, the Awomefia of Anlo State, to mediate in the Bimbilla chieftaincy crisis so that lasting peace can be restored in that restive part of the Northern Region.

“I am proposing that Torgbe Sri III, the Awomefia of Anlo State, should try to bring the Bimbilla chieftaincy dispute to a final conclusion so that we have peace and security and understanding amongst the people of Bimbilla,” he said during a durbar of chiefs held in his honour by the chief of Bimbilla when the President arrived at Nanumba last weekend.

The President urged all stakeholders to give the chief their support to successfully perform the mediation so that the Dagbon success story could be replicated there.

It would be recalled that the Supreme Court affirmed the decisions of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs that declared Naa Andani II as the legitimate chief of the Bimbilla area.

The family of the late Nakpa Naa Salifu Dawuni in Bimbilla, however, contested the ruling by the Supreme Court.

The five-member panel of the apex court unanimously held that the Naa Andani’s lineage to the Bimbilla Skin was the legitimate occupant, which gave finality to the 14-year-old dispute as to who was the rightful heir to Bimbilla Skin.
