A 39-year-old trader accused of sexually molesting a six-year-old girl has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
David Akwasi Adjei is said to have lured the victim to a drinking spot and inserted his fingers into the victim’s vagina.
Adjei allegedly bought the victim rice and warned her not tell anyone after the act.
The accused person, who was charged with indecent assault, pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin Doku, admitted Adjei to bail in the sum of GH¢8,000 with two sureties.
He is expected to reappear on October 10.
The Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo said the complainant is the victim’s father and that both the complainant and the victim reside at Okponglo in Accra.
ASP Boafo said Adjei resides in the same vicinity.
He said on August 28, this year, at about 1000 hours, Adjei lured the victim to a drinking spot in the area and inserted his finger into the victim’s vagina.
ASP Boafo said later in the evening, the victim informed her father about her ordeal when he returned from work.
Prosecution said the complainant apprehended the accused and sent him to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVOSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Airport where a medical form was issued to the victim for medical examination.
The prosecution said the accused person admitted the offence in his caution statement.
