Optional King, Winner of last year’s event
Mentor, a popular annual music reality show which aired on TV3 and discovered stars such as Kesse, eShun and Becca among others, has been launched.
The launch ceremony, which took place during TV3’s morning show, New Day, featured Edem and Adina and industry veteran, Bessa Simons and music producer, Appiah Dankwah, aka Apietus, who are the judges for this year’s edition.
Dubbed: “Mentor Taking You Higher”, this year’s event is scheduled to be held from September to December, every Sunday, by Nana Kwadwo Addo and MzGee.
Auditions are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, September 1 to 2, in Tamale at the Radach Hotel; and in Kumasi on Friday, September 4 to 5, at Akoma FM.
It continues in Takoradi on Thursday, September 10 to 11, at Connect FM; and the final auditions will be held in Accra on Tuesday, September 15 to 16 at the premises of TV3 Network.
The winner will take home a brand new vehicle, GH¢50,000 worth of airtime across all Media General platforms—radio, television and digital platforms.
The first runner-up will receive a cash amount of GH¢10,000 as well as GH¢40,000 worth of airtime. The second runner-up will also receive a cash amount of GH¢8,000 and GH¢30,000 worth of airtime; and the third runner-up will receive GH¢5,000 in cash and GH¢20,000 worth of airtime.
Speaking on the station’s preparedness for this year’s edition, the General Manager of Media General Television, Francis Doku, said “beyond offering a platform to discover extraordinary talents, we seek to add value and equip these young musicians with the requisite music business knowledge, industry insights and support to transform them into global stars.”
He further said “around the world, music is a multimillion dollar industry and a major contributor to the gross domestic product of countries. We at TV3 are convinced that when the right structures are built and activities within the creative arts sector are streamlined, our music industry could potentially become a huge contributor to national development, hence our efforts at helping to identify, nurture and hone young talents to contribute to the industry.”
