Two students of Ada Senior High Technical School have been convicted by the Ada West District Court after a video showing one of them brandishing a cutlass and threatening fellow students on campus surfaced on social media in May this year.
The two were convicted after they changed their initial plea of not guilty to guilty, leaving the court to convict them on their own plea.
The students, Oscar Amemasor, 20, and Emmanuel Senunya, 18, were charged with assault and abetment of assault involving a fellow student.
The prosecution’s court documents had indicated that Amemasor assaulted the victim with a metal bar, while Senunya was seen holding a cutlass.
As their punishment, the court made them sign a 12-month bond to be of good behaviour.
The two were part of four students who were initially arrested by the Tema Regional Police Command after the video was shared on social media.
Tema Regional Police Command, in a statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, said the arrests followed a swift police response after officers came across the video at about 12:10 a.m. on May 22, 2026.
It pointed out that a night patrol team was immediately dispatched to the school and the four, who were identified in the video, were arrested with the assistance of school authorities.
The police urged students to resolve disagreements peacefully through established school structures instead of resorting to violence or intimidation.
The command also called on parents and school authorities to strengthen supervision, discipline and guidance among students to help maintain safety and order in schools.
Meanwhile, lawyer for the students, Enock Teye Sewornu, said the decision to change their pleas was taken in their best interest.
Speaking to Citi News, he said the students had just received their results and are about to enter the university.
“So, they were convicted, and they were to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months. So, finally, they are free. In fact, they are students who have just received their results and are about to enter university,” he stated.
He added that the decision comes as a great relief to the students and their parents as “they’ll be able to go back to school.”
