Logs fell from a moving KIA truck to hit two people who died at Betenase, near Amankyem in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region.
Alimiyaw Sorage, 38, and Kwabena Anim, 25, sustained injuries in the head and chest at about 1:30 am yesterday.
Chief Inspector Owusu, Obuasi Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who confirmed the tragic incident, said the victims were reportedly sitting on the logs prior to the accident.
According to him, the truck driver, who has absconded, was conveying the logs to Obuasi at that ungodly hour when the incident happened.
Chief Inspector Owusu indicated that the police were called to the scene some minutes after the incident.
The remains of Alimiyaw Sorage and Kwabena Anim have since been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital morgue, pending autopsy while the police have begun investigations into the incident.
