Almost two years after the June 3 disaster, its repercussions linger, as two traders were last week lynched by unknown assailants at Odawna, in Accra, DAILY GUIDE understands.
The names of the deceased were given as Osei Boateng and Yaw Adomako.
An eyewitness who spoke to DAILY GUIDE said even before the June 3 disaster, which claimed hundreds of lives, some traders around the Odawna area at Circle were using “faulty and dangerous-looking generators”.
“As a result of the Dumsor (power-rationing) some traders, including the deceased duo, were using generators that were faulty, and their colleagues had always warned them that the generators could cause a massive fire outbreak at the place,” disclosed the eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous.
He revealed that after the disaster, many of the traders who survived, started a man-hunt for the traders that had generators at the place, blaming them for the fire outbreak.
“They were about 12 and they all fled from town, but these two returned after almost two years, thinking that the matter was over; but unfortunately, they were subjected to severe beatings by a mob until they died,” the eyewitness added.
He named other traders that had generators and had fled town as Seth Kwesi Ofosu, Joe Appiah, Emmanuel Amalai Amamoo and Samuel Kwaku Manu.
“We even went to each of their houses after the disaster, but they were nowhere to be found, until these two showed up last week.”
It would be recalled that on June 3, 2015, over 150 lives – including women and children- were snuffed out in the most horrifying circumstances when the rain turned into a storm, the storm into floods; the floods gave way to fire and the fire left behind charred bodies, burnt properties at Odawna , Circle, Accra.
