The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has officially confirmed the tragic death of two staff members—a senior lecturer and his teaching assistant—who passed away following a road accident on the Accra-Cape Coast highway on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

The deceased persons included Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, Senior Lecturer, Department of Geography and Regional Planning and Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, a National Service person at the university.

The accident occurred at Third Ridge Junction when a tipper truck lost control while trying to avoid another vehicle, resulting in it overturning and crashing into the saloon car in which the two were travelling.

A statement issued by the university and signed by it Acting Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the untimely passing of the two men.

The university confirmed that Dr. Agyemang was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning and was well respected for his work in teaching, research and service to the institution.

“He was a highly respected member of the University’s academic community, known for his dedication to teaching, research, and service.

“His invaluable contributions and presence will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” the statement continued.

“Amoadu-Asmah, on the other hand, was a National Service Person who graduated from the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, UCC, in the previous year,” the statement noted.

“He distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student of the Department,” the statement indicated.

The university has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues, and students.
