UDS In Darkness As NEDCo Cuts Power Supply

Information reaching DGN Online indicates that students of the University for Development Studies(UDS) Wa campus have been in darkness for days due to the disconnection of power supply to the school by the Northern Electricity Company (NEDCO).

DGN Online understands this is as a result of the university’s inability to settle its indebtedness to the electricity company.

It is said that the university owes the electricity company an amount of GH¢3 million for power sully since 2013.

Efforts by the Northern Electricity Company to retrieve the said amount proved futile, causing the disconnection of electricity to the university.

Sources at the Wa campus have told DGN Online that the students have boycotted lecturers due to the current situation in the school.

According to them, the lack of electricity in the various lecture halls affects teaching and learning, hence their boycott.

Maxwell Kotoka, the Corporate Communications Manager at VRA/ NEDCO told DGN Online that management of the Wa UDS have met with VRA/NEDCo to settle the issue.

According to him , some agreement has been reached between the two parties and assured that the Wa campus will be connected back to the national grid.
