UMB Foils Cyber Attack

The management of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has successfully thwarted a cyber attack on its systems by some miscreants who attempted to hack into their infrastructure.

The operation, which was carried out in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has led to the arrest of members of the syndicate, who are currently in police custody assisting in further investigations.

A statement issued by UMB, a leading Ghanaian indigenous bank with considerable financial expertise, attributed the success of the operation to the significant investments made into the bank’s operational systems.

The statement indicated that the syndicate attempted to remotely access the bank’s system, but the technical and security teams of the financial institution were quickly alerted.

“They moved swiftly to avert the attack which would have adversely affected the bank.

“Management of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) hereby wishes to notify its customers and the general public that it successfully collaborated with officers of the Ghana Police Service to cause the arrest of unscrupulous syndicate that attempted to attack the bank’s infrastructure last week,” the statement said.

“UMB wishes to state that due to the significant infrastructural investments made into the bank’s operational systems, the technical and security teams of our bank were quickly alerted and moved very swiftly to avert this situation,” the bank noted.
