Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has inaugurated its newest branch in the banking square of the University of Ghana, Legon Campus.
This new branch features UMB’s signature beautiful branch layout and a 24 Hour ATM.
The opening of the branch brings the number of UMB branches across the country to 30.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Operating Officer of UMB, Benjamin Amenumey, commended the University of Ghana for undertaking the banking square project to bring players in the financial services industry closer to students and the university community.
According to Mr. Amenumey, the opening of the new branch was another indication of UMB’s commitment to playing a critical role in developing the next generation of Ghanaian leaders.
Mr. Amenumey further outlined some of the student friendly initiatives that the bank had undertaken in recent times, stating that “in 2014, we introduced the Aspire Account, an account designed for students to help them understand and practice financial discipline.
“We have also organized several student seminars to introduce them to useful topics such as Entrepreneurship, Personal Branding, Financial Discipline and Investment Opportunities for students among others.”
Lawrence Appiah–Baiden, UMB’s Director of Retail, stated that tertiary students constituted a key target for the bank “because in the next few years, these students will become the entrepreneurs and leaders who will be making critical decisions that will affect the fortunes of our nation.”
He added that in the coming months, UMB would be opening more branches on several university campuses throughout the country.
UMB’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Yvonne Botchey, also stated that “UMB has a strong brand that appeals to young people, especially tertiary students, and we are happy that we can finally bring our services closer to students of this great university.”
