Unproductive Enterprise

John Mahama

The NDC is a political grouping still finding it difficult to come to terms with the reality of the recent elections.

Following its unsuccessful bid at the polls, it has resorted to many untoward actions including hallucinating about the former President being a President-elect and even attempting to address him as such. Perhaps that stemmed from one of their MP’s inappropriate counsel to the former President to form a parallel government. We shudder to imagine how the security agencies would have responded to this ‘Western Togoland’ mode action from the NDC.

When a man regarded as a lawyer starts talking like he did and perhaps continues to do so, we have cause to consider the NDC as being in an optimum shock, one bordering on institutional psychosis of sorts.

As if that is not enough, the former President has surrounded himself with retired soldiers with NDC inclinations, the aim of which action is to cow Ghanaians into toeing the line of the party that its flag bearer won the December 7 polls under duress.

The people of this beautiful country have embraced the rule of law so much that those who reminisce the bloody days of the mutiny styled as a revolution and think they can flaunt the dark period in our contemporary history must be harbouring warped thoughts.

Retired Lt Col Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, the man who once coordinated national security, is a spent individual whose days are long gone.

Larry, as he is fondly called, should descend from the hallucinatory state in which he appears to have found himself and discover the new Ghana away from the murderous days of the P(NDC) days.

Human beings being ephemeral – play their parts on the stage of national affairs and depart when their divinely appointed time is up.

Today, in an IT-driven world, things have changed massively and officer cadets the world over are learning the new trends of modern warfare. The training manuals might still contain the traditional subjects such as Tactics, Voice Procedure, Military History and Staff Writing and others of the old school; they are learning new subjects to reflect today’s world which are Greek to the old foxes.

Unfortunately, the former President is counting on them to push his agenda of fomenting trouble in the country, a pipedream.

Intelligence gathering has improved in line with modern trends; its impact on national security management beyond the knowledge of old foxes.

The former President should have known better and simply avoid wasting his time on fanciful projects of forming a parallel government.

Let anybody breach the laws of the land and they would encounter the awesome powers of the state.
