Unstatesmanlike Rhetoric

We are always careful talking about former President John Dramani Mahama for obvious reasons.

At one time he was the soul of the country who deserved to be respected even if one did not vote for him.

But no matter how hard we try, former President Mahama’s behaviour makes it difficult to be accorded the respect he deserves. He will at most times descend into the gutter and try to smear decent people with his hate speech. When he mounts the political platform, he behaves like the leopard that can never change its spots.

For if that were not the case how can Mr. Mahama ask the government to jail Nana Appiah Mensah otherwise known as NAM 1 and leave Gyakye Quayson alone? Is it not on record that NAM 1 was operating the Ponzi scheme under the watch of Mr. Mahama, and what action did his government take against him?

Today he is blaming the Akufo-Addo government for the woes of Gyakye Quayson. Listen to Mr. Mahama during his campaign of Assin North last Saturday. He is reported to have said “the NPP administration has gone to indecent lengths to rob the people of Assin North of parliamentary representation with the aim to gain advantage in what has essentially been a hung Parliament.

He said the Quayson case will go down in the history of Ghanaian democracy as “one of the most brazen manipulation of our judiciary system ever”

“Haba” former President Mahama how can you demean our judiciary this way by implying that the judges are in the pocket of the NPP government and are not independent-minded.

Mr. Mahama you were a head of state before and were you manipulating the judges? Are we right to say that you had a hand in the sentencing of Adamu Sakande for flouting the law on citizenship?

What is the issue confronting Gyakye Quayson today that the NDC and Mr. Mahama are throwing dust into the eyes of the people of Assin North? In any case has Gyakye Quayson breached any law? When Gyakye Quayson was filing his nomination with the EC, what did he say? He said he was Ghanaian but in the records of Canada he was still a Canadian. That is what Ghana’s law says, and therefore the ousted Gyakye Quayson breached the law and he is suffering the punishment for it.

The NDC and indeed Mr. Mahama must stop the propaganda campaign and sell their candidate. Their false claim that the NPP wants Gyakye Quayson out of the way so that they can reject the LGBTQI+ bill can only be a figment of imagination by Mr. Mahama and his followers.

It appears the NDC and Mr. Mahama have no message for the people of Assin North and have resorted to deliberate lies to confuse the people.

The earlier Mr. Mahama sees the writing on the wall and craft better campaign messages, we can warn them that defeat stares the NDC in the face, and it is time the NDC takes steps to grow in the conduct of their politics because the electorate are more discerning.
