This year’s edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) will take place in August in Accra, the organizers have announced.

The organizers are yet to announce the date and venue for the event, which is expected to attract thousands of stakeholders in the creative arts industry.

According to the organizers, the decision comes after the President eased some of the restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The VGMA is being organized to reward deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to Ghana’s music industry.

This year’s edition marks the 21st edition of the event, which has over the years celebrated hard-working players in the music industry.

The organizers have promised music fans and industry stakeholders that this year’s event will be historic with a number of packages put in place to entertain music fans.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charter House (organizers of the event), Mrs Theresa Ayoade, in an interview with Joy News, indicated that her team was re-strategizing to bring the best of entertainment to viewers in August, regardless of the problems they might face.

“The challenges of putting together logistics and not being sure of expected revenue are a real issue. In normal times, we will have been able to sell up to 4,000 tickets in VGMA-related events, but it is not so now,” she said.

She explained that her outfit was looking into utilizing the digital space as well as new guidelines for events put forth by the Tourism Ministry.

The CEO revealed that this year’s VGMA would have live audience but with the needed social distancing and health protocols.

She however, stated that she was confident that her team, by August, could put together a spectacular show for their audience.

Since its inception in 2000, the VGMA has grown to become the biggest event on the Ghanaian entertainment calendar, designed to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of various players in Ghana’s music industry.
