Ishmael Ashitey presenting the Keys to the AMA Chief

The management of VIP Jeoun Transport Company Limited last Wednesday donated assorted waste collection vehicles worth GH¢500, 000 to the Accra and Kumasi Metropolitan Authorities.

Yaw Amponsah Marfo, the director of the company, indicated that the donation formed part of activities marking the 10th anniversary of the nation’s private premier transport service provider.

In an earlier presentation also held in Kumasi, the company presented VIP-branded tricycles and other waste collection equipment.

“We are very happy during our anniversary year to make this humble donation as our corporate social responsibility to show our commitment to be part of the president’s initiative to green Accra as well as make it the cleanest city in the sub-region,” he pointed out.

Mr Amponsah Marfo explained that VIP Jeoun Transport Company Limited, which operates about 600 fleet of long buses and transports about five 5,000 passengers a day, is passionate about the president’s initiative, adding that plans are far advanced to roll out a programme to ensure that it provides  VIP branded waste bins at all rest stops along its routes.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, who received the keys to the vehicles on behalf of the AMA, commended the company for the donation.

He further appealed to other corporate institutions to support the campaign against filth so that the president’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in the sub-region will yield the needed impact.

The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, further appealed to other institutions to donate waste bins which can be placed along the ceremonial streets as control measures against littering.

“Much as the waste load in Accra is so huge, the AMA team is fast at it and for us this may not take long before the success story will be told,” he added.
