As part of efforts to help improve road safety consciousness among commercial drivers and other road users, Vivo Energy Ghana has launched a campaign dubbed, ‘Stop, Think and Drive’ in Takoradi to improve safety on roads.
Provisional statistics from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) indicates that road traffic crashes, injuries and death saw consistent month-on-month reduction in 2022.
Vivo Energy therefore believes that the initiative contributed to the reduction and should be maintained.
Corporate Communications Manager at Vivo Energy, Shirley Tony Kum, said the participants, mostly divers, were taken through a comprehensive driving training modules to help them become more inclined to road safety and lessen traffic crushes.
She remarked, “We organised this programme to sensitise drivers about road safety and this is about the third time we are organising such a programme”.
Madam Tony Kum therefore urged all drivers and motorcyclists to adhere to the various instructions in the discharge of their daily activities and to contribute toward making the roads safer.
Principal Transport Officer at the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Stephen Ankamah, said a good driver is the one that goes on a journey without causing an accident, or allowing an accident to happen.
Western Regional MTTD Commander, Supt. Isaac Kumnipa, advised drivers against overloading, overtaking and over speeding because, they are the leading cause of accidents in this country.
“As the year is coming to an end, I will plead and urge drivers to avoid wrong overtaking, speeding and overloading so that we will all be alive and celebrate this Christmas peacefully,” he indicated.
