Operation Show Force team in Tamale
Police and military officers in the Northern Region have expressed their readiness to deal mercilessly with troublemakers in preparation for the funerals of the two late Yaa-Naas.
The joint military and police operation dubbed ‘Operation Show Force’ displayed their pieces of equipment and machineries in the Tamale Metropolis and other hot spots in the region to demonstrate their readiness.
According to them, anybody or group of persons who try to create fear and panic in the region to mar or disrupt the funerals of the late Yaa-Naas would be dealt with severely.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yusif Mohammed Tanko, told DAILY GUIDE that they had been adequately resourced to make sure there is peace during and after the funerals.
DSP Yusif Tanko said they have enough men, vehicles, weapons, ammunition and other materials to enhance their work.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and two eminent chiefs have finally resolved the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute, which has seen the two feuding royal gates – Abudu and Andani – travelling to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for more than a decade for mediation and settlement.
The funeral rites, which are expected to last for two weeks, will commence on December 14 and end on December 28, 2018, after which the Abudus will leave the Gbewa Palace peacefully.
The Andanis will also take their turn at the Gbewa Palace to organize the funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani from 4-18 January, 2019.
The Northern Regional Minister who doubles as the chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Salifu Saeed, has indicated that the police and military are sending clear signals and warnings to troublemakers in Dagbon with regard to the roadmap leading to the observance of the funerals.
He gave an assurance that REGSEC, as well as government, was ready to roll out various measures and mechanisms to implement the roadmap to its final process.
Mr. Salifu Saeed thanked the various religious leaders and the youth in the region for their cooperation, but was quick to add that anybody or group of individuals who have plans to disrupt the roadmap process would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He encouraged the security officers to give off their best and assured them that government was ready to support them in any form.
