Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, has taken over as the first substantive Western North Regional Minister from the caretaker and former Western Regional Minister, Dr Kweku Afriyie.

The first Deputy Regional Minister and the legislator for Sefwi Akotombra, Alex Tetteh, also took office at the colourful ceremony.

The event attracted lots of political stalwarts including the municipal chief executives and district chief executive officers from all the nine districts that form the Western North Region.

The districts are Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, Juaboso District, Bodi District and Akotombra District.

The rest are Suaman, Aowin, Bia East and West districts.

Also present were the clergy, traditional authorities, assembly members, media, civil society and some Muslim clerics and other dignitaries.

Handing over, Dr. Afriyie thanked the President for the honour done him to serve as a minister of state in his government.

He noted that the ceremony was historic, particularly for the inhabitants including the Sefwis and Aowins to attain the freedom their forefathers could not attain over 60 years ago.

He continued that the tremendous achievement of the Nana Addo’s government within the period of two years in power was commendable.

Mr. Aboagye Gyedu mentioned that the region was well endowed with many natural resources yet it had been neglected in terms of developmental projects for far too long.

He commended the president for the implementation of prudent policies to move Ghana forward.

He told the people that his doors would always be opened to welcome suggestions and opinions from the people – both home and abroad – to enable his office fast-track the development of the area.

He also promised to serve with humility and integrity in order to accomplish the president’s vision for the people.
