Wizkid Apologises To Ghanaian Music Fans

Nigerian musician, Wizkid has apologized to Ghanaian music fans for his failure to perform at his Wizkid Live concert in Accra.

Some music fans waited for several hours on Saturday night at the Accra Sports Stadium where the concert took place for the Afrobeat star to perform but he didn’t show up.

Organisers in a statement said Wizkid breached his contractual obligation to perform.

But according to Wizkid, he took the decision not to perform to protect his brand.

In a tweet on Sunday evening, he fingered safety and production issues as the reason for his decision, indicating that would have prevented him from putting up a high-quality show.

He continued to promise the fans a new show by his team that he will be announcing very soon.

“Ghana is a country I hold so dear to my heart, first and foremost I wanna apologise to all my fans! Y’all know I would never do anything, without serious reasoning behind it. My brand is something I don’t joke with! I sincerely apologise, to everyone who made the effort to come out for me last night. I was charged up, and looking forward to doing this show.

However, please understand that every decision I made co-sided with honouring my fans, and would only make a drastic decision like this because it was the right thing to do and I had to,” he stated.

“Unfortunately, up until the day of this show, there continued to be safety and production issues that prevented me from putting on the high-quality show that my fans deserve. My Team and Myself are working on delivering a show to my amazing fans in Ghana. It will be just us, me and you. Date and details soon. Love you,” he added.

The apology attracted mix-reactions from the fans, some of whom asked Wizkid what prevented him from making such an announcement before the concert so they don’t attend the concert to waste their time and energy.

“You have SEVERAL hours to pass this message before the show to prevent people from going to the venue to wait for you. But you failed to do so.

Ayodeji, you won’t do this in the US or UK without being punished by the authority, why Africa? It is #MoreEgoLessHumility,” @UnlimitedEniola replied Wizkid.
“I was waiting to see the reason for not showing up but it’s just my fans this, my fans that…it’s all good sha,” @efe34844954 also tweeted.
