A DEEP mining pit has unfortunately collapsed and killed a 42-year-old woman, who was prospecting for gold with her colleague illegal miners in an abandoned mining pit.
The heartbreaking incident, reportedly, happened at Botrampa, a farming community near Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region on Monday, September 22, 2025.
The lifeless body of Aminatu Amidu, the deceased, has since been deposited at the Nyinahin Community Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
A statement from the police, sighted by DAILY GUIDE, said Fuseini Mamudu of Agogoso reported the unfortunately case to the police on September 23, 2025.
He “reported that on 22/09/2025, his sister Aminatu Amidu, aged 42 years and others went to an abandoned mining site at Botrampa to mine for gold.
“That in the course of the work, a portion of the pit collapsed on her and she was rescued and rushed to Nyinahin Community Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival and the body deposited at the mortuary of the same facility.”
It said the police visited the mortuary and found the body of the deceased, Aminatu Amidu, lying in a supine position.
“Police examined the body of the deceased and found no marks of assault on the body,” it said, and added, “The scene of crime will be visited to conduct further investigation”.
