Wontumi Is Political Prisoner – COKA

Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah

THE INCARCERATION of former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as ‘Wontumi’, has been described as politically motivated.

Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, aka COKA, the current Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, who made the remarks, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is terrorising its political opponents.

According to him, from all indications, the President John Dramani Mahama’s administration is using the judiciary to terrorise their political opponents, of which Wontumi, unfortunately, is one of the victims.

COKA disclosed that he recently visited Wontumi in prison, noting that during the visit he realised that despite his horrible situation, his predecessor (Wontumi) was in good spirits and firmly behind the NPP to succeed.

“Wontumi is a political prisoner,” COKA lamented, attracting cheers from his sizable and charged audience.

Speaking during the NPP National Delegates Conference, which was held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, he urged the NPP members to rise up and work for the party to oust the NDC from power in 2028.

According to him, the only way that the NPP could prevent the NDC from leading the country into abyss is to win the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Sounding very confident, COKA emphatically stated that the NPP would win the next elections, promising that the Ashanti Region, which is the stronghold of the NPP, would lead the party’s quest for victory in 2028.

He said the NPP has learnt bitter lessons from the 2024 electoral defeat, noting that the party is now determined and ready to wrest political power from the non-performing NDC government under President Mahama.

COKA also admonished his teeming party members to unite and work for the NPP to win political power, noting that “Let’s put aside our personal differences and unite and work for the NPP henceforth.”

“With hard work, the NPP will see victory in 2028, and I’m stating here today that Dr. Bawumia is the next president of Ghana. The NDC is on their way to opposition, nothing can save them from losing 2028 polls,” he stated.
