Kwaw Kese
Award-winning rapper Emmanuel Kofi Botchwey, popularly known as Kwaw Kese, has taken his talents back to the big screen in Summer, the latest film from Yvonne Nelson’s YN Productions.
The movie, produced and directed by Yvonne Nelson herself, features a star-studded cast including Jeffrey Nortey, Anthony Woode, Majid Michel, Franklin Adjetey, Vivian Woliny, Gabriel Hogan, and Yvonne Nelson.
Released on Amazon Prime in the UK, US and Europe, the film is expected to hit Ghanaian cinemas soon.
Kwaw Kese, famed for his bold persona and gritty lyrics, plays the role of a gangster — a character that aligns seamlessly with his “Madtime” brand and streetwise artistry. Industry watchers say his appearance adds an edge to the already high-profile production.
The rapper, who shot to fame in the early 2000s with hits like Oye Nonsense, Abodam 07, and the chart-topping Dondo, has over the years made cameo appearances in local productions, using his larger-than-life persona to bridge the gap between Ghana’s music and film industries. Known as “Abodam” meaning “craziness” for his unconventional stage antics and fearless style, Kwaw Kese has built a reputation as one of Ghana’s most daring and authentic performers.
His return to the screen in a leading role reflects a growing trend of Ghanaian musicians crossing into film, further blurring the lines between the country’s creative sectors.
For Yvonne Nelson, ‘Summer’ marks yet another bold entry in her filmmaking journey, combining Ghanaian star power with international reach. With Kwaw Kese in there, fans are already buzzing about the energy he will bring to the project when it finally screens in Ghana.
