The Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF), Dr. Suleman Arafat Abdulai has expressed ZODF commitment to provide resources to develop and transform the economic condition of the Zongo Community.
Speaking at the Minister’s press briefing yesterday in Accra, he said, the ZoDF has improved social conditions of the Zongo communities through investment in Basic services and strategic infrastructure and financing Education and training programmes for the youth in Zongo communities.
Speaking on the theme, “Zongo Development Fund-Transforming Zongo through investment,” he disclosed that ZoDF has impacted positively on the lives of communities in the 16 regions across the length and breadth of the country.
Dr. Arafat added that the fund has provided much needed educational infrastructure by constructing about 69 classroom blocks, 37 ICT labs, and libraries and renovated dilated school blocks and classrooms.
“The provision of potable drinking water and healthy sanitary condition in the Zongo communities remain top priority of the Fund. In this connection, 163 Zongo communities have benefited from the provision of Mechanized boreholes, while 47 public and institutional places of convenience have been constructed,” he disclosed
Dr. Arafat conveyed that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, chiefs, Imams and other leaders in Zongo communities came together to educate, sensitize and distributed COVID-19 reliefs and protect protective materials, adding that “our community engagement programme on COVID-19 was heralded with the collaboration of His Spiritual Eminence, the National Chief Imam, Regional Chief Imams and Traditional leaders to educate them on the need to get vaccinated.”
According to him, the fund has invested in the construction of 18 community sports and recreation centres (Astro Turfs) emerging as the foremost provider of community sports infrastructure in Ghana.
“It is an undeniable facts that our communities are awash with sporting talents and ZoDF recognizes the exhaustible sporting assets in Zongo communities and is committed to providing enabling infrastructure to unearth, harness and nurture these talents for sustainable socio-economic growth and development.
