Tempane Senior High School in the Upper East Region will remain closed till members of the Tempane District Security Committee (DISEC) meet to take a decision.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Tempane District, Paul Azumah, has hinted that plans have been made to admit the first-year students on the Gold Track of the double-track system.

On Tuesday, December 11, students of the Tempane Senior High School started agitation on campus in the morning in protest against the suspension of their headmaster – Dominic Ndego.

According to the students, the continuous absence of their headmaster was affecting their stay in the school. They therefore demanded his immediate reinstatement.

The final-year students took their breakfast but violently prevented first and second-year students from taking theirs. The final and second-year students also refused to take their end of term examination. In spite of persuasion from the DCE and teachers, they did not sit for the exams.

In an interview, the DCE said his attention was drawn to the disturbance by the student and met them immediately to address their concerns, but unfortunately he could not address their concerns.

According to him, the students insisted on the immediate reinstatement of their headmaster, who was asked to step aside in October 2018 for a committee to investigate how National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organizer, Joshua Akamba, had access to some female students of the school and incited them to hoot at and shame the Akufo-Addo government for the challenges in the implementation of the free senior high school and double track system.

Since October this year, when Mr. Dominic Ndego stepped aside, he has not been called back, which according to the students, was affecting their stay on campus despite the presence of their assistant headmasters.

The DCE said when the students refused to rescind their decision on Tuesday, December 11, he asked the police to get to the school to keep them under control.

He said, at a point, the students were getting out of control and he did not see it prudent keeping them in the school.

In October 2018, the then National Organizer aspirant, Joshua Akamba, on his campaign rounds in the Tempane Constituency strayed into the Tempane Senior High School and met some female students.

After his visit, a video that captured him interacting with the school girls went viral. Mr. Akamba was seen in that video inciting the female students against the President, Nana Akufo-Addo and the government.

This generated discussions across the country and in a quick reaction, the Ghana Education Service asked the headmaster to step aside for investigations to be conducted into the presence of Mr. Akamba at the girls’ dormitory.

Since October 2018, he has been on suspension and nothing has been heard from the committee concerning their findings or recommendations.
