A blaze Saturday evening left in its wake 10 burnt vehicles and 15 stores in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region.

The fire was said to have emanated from a fitting mechanic shop at the Suame Magazine, near Tafo New Road Junction.

The burnt vehicles included eight Benz and two Sprinter buses, which had been sent to a popular mechanic by their owners for repairs.

The fire, which was said to be very frightening, destroyed vehicle spare parts, gallons of engine oil and other items.

It took the intervention of fire fighters, who reportedly responded swiftly to a distress call, to bring the ravaging blaze under control, DAILY GUIDE learnt.

The assemblyman for Tafo/Nhyiaeso Electoral Area, Bashiru Mohammed, told DAILY GUIDE that he could not quantify the damage caused by the fire.

According to him, he was among the people that thronged to the scene, adding that they called fire fighters, who responded positively to their call.

Mr Mohammed said the firemen used two hours to totally douse the inferno, which spread fast due to the dry weather.

He claimed that it was after the fire had been quenched that they discovered the damage caused.
