2 Get 30 Years For Robbery

Two young men who robbed an engineer of his Toyota Camry saloon car at gunpoint in 2015 have each been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.

Yaw Antwi Boasiako, a goldsmith and Kwaku Akorsah, taxi driver, were contracted by one Ivan Kofi Danso to rob the car for him.

They robbed the complainant of the vehicle, money and other properties at gunpoint.

They changed the number plate of the vehicle but they were subsequently arrested by the police after the complainant reported the matter to the police.

Upon their arrest, the court said Ivan Danso presented some documents purporting to be that of the vehicle and told the police that he had exchanged two plots of land for it with woman who lives in Canada.

He was subsequently granted bail by the police but went into hiding.

Bosiako and Akorsah were however put before the court on two counts of conspiracy and robbery.

Although they admitted the offense in their police caution statement, they both pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them by the prosecution.

The prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police Patience Mario, had to prove the guilt of the two.

At the end of the trial, the court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt that the two accused persons indeed conspired and successfully robbed the complainant of his car.

He said the two made contradictory statements and testimonies in an attempt to deny any wrongdoing.

Yaw Antwi Boasiakois reportedly stated that after robbing the vehicle Ivan Kofi Danso refused to give them their share of the booty until after two clear days when he gave them GH?12,000.00

Kwaku Akorsah, on the other hand, admitted that he took part in the operation but broke ties with the rest of the suspects after the robbery.

The court, after considering the evidence presented against them, found them guilty and convicted them on two counts of conspiracy and robbery.
