Atebubu Fights For Bono East Capital

The fight for the capital of the newly-created Bono East Region has intensified ahead of tomorrow’s official presentation of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) by President Akufo-Addo.

Currently, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that two towns- Atebubu and Techiman- are the front runners, with Dawuakwahene of the Atebubu Traditional Council, Nana Boakye-Yiadom, making a strong case for Atebubu to be selected as the capital for the Bono East Region.

The Dawuakwahene told DAILY GUIDE that Atebubu, which is centrally located in the newly created region, has a large tract of land for infrastructural development befitting a new capital.

According to him, the idea of creating the new region is to bring development to the doorsteps of people in other districts located far from Sunyani.

He said development would easily spread to districts such Sene East, Sene West, Pru East, Pru West, Nkoranza North, Nkoranza South and others because of the strategic location of Atebubu.

He said if Techiman, for instance, is selected, it will defeat the purpose for which the new region was created because the town is already developed and located to the extreme west of the new region and very close to Sunyani, the former capital.

“The chiefs and people of Atebubu are confident that Atebubu, which is centrally located in the region and has a very vast land for any development, will be chosen as the regional capital for Bono East,” Nana Boakye-Yiadom added.
