4 Atwima Shooting Victims Buried

Four people, who lost their lives owing to the rumpus over the siting of the capital of Atwima Kwanwoma District, have been buried.

The bodies of the deceased, who mostly sustained gunshot wounds, were interred at a cemetery at Foasi on Thursday morning.

They were laid in state at the Methodist School Park at Foasi for mourners to pay their last respects to them.

The four people, believed to be natives of Foasi, died in clashes over the siting of the capital of Atwima Kwanwoma District.

On February 7, 2018 the people of Foasi, who became incensed over the development, protested violently which forced the police to fire gunshots at them.

The funeral service was held peacefully on Thursday since the bereaved families and residents of Foasi, in general, comported themselves.

There was no heavy security presence in the town, but the people behaved appropriately.

The Atwimahene, Nana Antwi Adjei Brempong, on his part, assured that plans are underway to compensate the bereaved families to ensure peace.

“I am aware that government is making frantic efforts to compensate the bereaved families and the other people that sustained injuries at Foasi.

“The Attorney General’s Department is working on the compensation and in due time it will be paid to deserving families and people,” he said on radio.

He revealed that Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has also promised to ensure that adequate compensation is paid to bereaved families.
