Six people have been arrested in connection with the alleged fatal stabbing of Private Imoro Sherrif, in Ashaiman Taifa in the Greater Accra Region.

After a week of sustained intelligence-led operations, officers from the Ghana Police Service apprehended the suspects at their hideouts between March 9, 2023 and March 12, 2023.

The suspects are Safianu Musah alias Dayorgu, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Samuel Tetteh alias Wiper, Abubakar Sadick alias Birdman, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim.

As forensic and crime scene investigations in the community recovered items such as a blood-stained knife and a backpack, it has been uncovered that the suspects stabbed the soldier to death during a robbery attack on him.

Police discovered a Samsung tablet, an Apple laptop, a military uniform with the name tag “Imoro,” eight other clothes, a Ghana Card, and a Health Insurance card bearing the name Imoro Sherrif in the back pack.

In accordance with police standard operating procedure for dealing with institutional-based victims, the military was notified of the incident, and some military officers came to identify the deceased to police as Imoro Sheriff, a soldier.

The deceased’s body was then transported to a hospital for preservation and autopsy, the police said.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that an intelligence operation was immediately started as part of the investigation to follow up on all pertinent leads in Ashaiman and other key strategic locations.

On the same day, in accordance with Ghanaian tradition and as part of the investigation process, a team of police officers visited the parents of the deceased, commiserated with them, and assured them of a thorough investigation into the matter.

During the visit, the deceased’s parents informed the police that he was stationed in Sunyani but had travelled to Accra on a course.

The police said investigations also revealed that on March 3, 2023, the deceased paid a visit to a female friend in Ashaiman Newtown at around 10:30pm and left the following day, March 4, at around 01:30am.

The investigation determined that suspects Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick attacked the deceased at Taifa Ashaiman around 1:45 a.m. on March 4, 2022, in an attempt to rob him of his phone and the backpack.

The deceased, on the other hand, resisted and struggled with the suspects. During the struggle, suspect Samuel Tetteh pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased in the arm before grabbing his iPhone 6 and fleeing, leaving the deceased with the knife stuck in his arm.

Death Cause

DAILY GUIDE sources said on March 8, 2023, a postmortem examination was performed on the deceased’s body, and the pathologist determined that the cause of death was exsanguination and laceration of major vessels of the left arm consistent with stabbed injury.

According to the investigation, suspects Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick sold the iPhone they stole from the deceased to suspect Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, who then sold it to suspect Safianu Musah.

Suspect Safianu Musah, who was evasive about the phone’s whereabouts, claimed he sold it to suspect Yussif Mohammed, who later sold it to suspect Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim.

Both suspects were apprehended and detained, and they are now assisting with the investigation to recover the phone.

All six suspects are in police custody and will appear in court today, Monday, March 13, 2023.

The police operation and subsequent arrests had nothing to do with the recent military swoop in the same area, a source has hinted DAILY GUIDE.
