The suspects in police custody
THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has chalked a major breakthrough in its fight against crime in the region with the arrest of six male suspects, who have been described as “very notorious robbers.”
They are Philip Nyarko alias “Kawawa”, Hadi Samed alias “Toronto”, Issahaku Musah alias “Isak”, Suraj Mohammed alias “Baba Nde” alias “Trouble”, Hadi Abdul Majeed alias “Panie” and Foster Owusu Afriyie alias “Joe Fraizer”.
The nabbed suspects and some of their accomplices, who are still at large, are noted for street robbery operations in areas such as Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadaso Estate and other areas.
The suspects have been terrorising innocent residents of the aforementioned neighbourhoods in Kumasi for sometime now until they were eventually apprehended by the police Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi in August 2026.
The Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, in a report, described the arrest of the suspects as good news, noting that the suspects had tormented several people in the past.
According to him, the police, through an intelligence operation, managed to identify the suspects hideout and arrested them to assist in investigations, adding that items found on the suspects are still in police custody.
“The operation has so far led to the recovery of two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop and 33 other mobile phones, among other exhibits,” the police officer disclosed.
He said police extended their investigations and arrested one Augustine Agyemang Duah, who is alleged to be assisting members of the syndicate to unlock mobile phones believed to have been stolen from robbery victims.
According to him, Philip Nyarko, Hadi Samed and Abdul Shattar, who is at large, were busted by the police in Kumasi on December 6, 2025, over charges of alleged conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery.
The three suspects, he noted, were hauled to the Asokwa Circuit Court 1, where they were granted bail, adding that even though the case remains pending before the court, some of the suspects allegedly resumed criminal activities after their release.
He said the police are doing their utmost best to apprehend Shattar and other persons suspected to be connected to the alleged syndicate, who have been identified as Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik and Abdul Farouk, urging the public to assist with information to aid in their arrest.
The police, according to Supt. Ahianyo, would work to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement, identify other persons connected to the syndicate, and recover additional stolen property, adding that caged suspects would be arraigned soon.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, he indicated, remains committed to intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and property, particularly within the Kumasi Metropolis, urging victims of street robberies to assist with the identification of recovered exhibits.
