Your Achievement Is Monumental …Minister Tells Team Ghana

Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has described the recent success chalked by Ghana in the FUSA Games as monumental.
To the tough talking sports chief, Ghana’s feat in the Federation of African Sports (FUSA) should be commended and celebrated taking into account the harsh weather conditions and the demonstration of self confidence.
“Winning gold in basketball on such a big stage is no mean achievement. If you continue in this vein, Ghana will compete at the Olympics five years from now,” he said.
He has therefore promised to double his outfit’s effort to improve sporting facilities at the various tertiary and second cycle institutions.
The sports chief speaking to team Ghana at the Sports Directorate of the University of Ghana on Wednesday, said given full attention to sports in schools, offers students the platform to exhibit their sporting talents.
“I am happy the University has changed its philosophy of marrying sports and education.  Legon has proven that when given the push, it will go places. I wish this could be replicated in all educational institutions.”
“It is the intention of the Ministry to construct multiple purpose outdoor sports halls across the 216 districts nationwide. To begin with, I have used my Common Fund for the construction of gymnasium in my constituency at Odododiodio to serve as prototype.”
“Managing sports and education makes one a better sports person. Am in talks with the Education Ministry to ensure that we marry the two.”

Ghana was represented by the University College of Education, Winneba, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)  and the University of Ghana(UG).
Ghana won four golds, seven silvers and five bronze in the 35- University FUSA Games in South Africa recently.
